St. Pete’s Downtown Partnership created the city’s Innovation District as a private/public partnership.
Located on Tampa Bay, the District is sits between 5th Avenue South and 22nd Avenue South and stretches west to Martin Luther King Jr. Street, the area was developed with the future in mind.

Home to a regional marine research hub, two hospitals, a university, a world-renowned media school, a business incubator and several other public and private research organizations, the district is truly a future-focused incubator. Thousands of doctors, scientists, researchers, educators, and entrepreneurs have made the District their professional home creating a dynamic and synergistic ecosystem for innovation.

In addition, St. Petersburg is home to five centers of higher education for approximately 110,000 students. These institutions include:
University of South Florida-St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg College
Eckerd Liberal Arts College
Stetson Law College
Job Corps and Pinellas Technical College
Plus, Johns Hopkins Medicine and the State of Florida Institute of Oceanography are also in St. Pete. Johns Hopkins conducts pediatric medical education and clinical research to help provide world-class care in more than 50 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties. The Institute of Oceanography provides a central shared-use infrastructure to support the state’s ocean and marine science education and research programs.
